Luchamigos (Play'n Go) Slot Review
Luchamigos: Slot Overview
Wrestling is a well-received form of entertainment, not only in the US or in Europe, but also, and especially in Mexico. The north-american state is known for „Lucha Libre“, a term used for professional wrestling, and it is actually a theme that is used for online slot games. Play’n Go have decided, that they want to give this theme a shot. That’s why they’ll introduce us to Luchamigos.
Playing Board
Luchamigos is a 5-reel slot with 4 rows. To determine wins, the games uses 1,024 winning ways. What this means, is, that at least 3 of the same symbol need to be on adjacent reels from left to right. As oppose to the classic paylines, the position of the symbols does not matter with winning ways. Bet sizes range from 0.10€ to 100€ (or equivalent), though it may vary depending on where you play.
Winning Symbols
As for the winning symbols, you will find 8 different winning symbols, of which 4 are lower-paying symbols, 2 mid-tier and 2 high-paying symbols. As always we will start off with the low-tier symbols. These are occupied by the classic card suits. On the bottom end you will find the clubs and the diamonds, both clocking in at 0.3 times your bet size per full way. The other two spots are filled by the hearts and spades, netting you 0.5 times your bet size. And this already concludes the low-tier symbols.
From the mid-tier section on you will find winning symbols that fit the theme of the Lucha Libre. So first we have the green gloves, coming in at 1.5 times your bet size. And the second mid-paying symbol are the wrestling tights for 3 times your bet size per full way.
Now let’s get to the high-tier symbols. First are the wrestling boots, which will pay you 5 times your bet size. And the last winning symbol will be the championship belt, netting you 12 times your bet size per full way. This concludes the winning symbols, at least for now.
Luchamigos: Special Symbols and Stats
Lucha wrestlers are strong, but not strong enough to get big wins on their own. That’s why there are a few special symbols to help them achieve this task.
Scatter Symbol
The scatter symbol will be portrayed by a red chili pepper. That’s why this symbol will also be called Power Chili. These can only appear on reels 1, 3 and 5. Landing all 3 of them in the same spin will let you enter the Power Chili Spins. But the Power Chilies can also be used for a few other features. What exactly these features are will be covered in our Feature Overview section.
Wild Symbol
Wild symbols will simply be shown by a comic-like label that states „WILD“. These will substitute for any winning symbol except scatter symbols. They also have a payout. Wild symbols will share a payout with the championship belt, paying 12 times your bet size for a full way. As far as our test showed, wild symbols cannot appear naturally and have to be brought onto the playing board by other features.
Amigo Wild
There is a special type of wild, that is only available in the base game. This one is called the Amigo Wild. This wild symbol will show all of the three Luchamigos and behaves like a regular wild, which means that it will also substitute for any winning symbol. So why is this symbol important? Well, you see, this symbol will be used for another feature, that we will cover later on in detail.
Stats
Unfortunately, we can barely give you any information about the stats of Luchamigos. Play’n Go do not publish a lot of interesting statistics about their games. Luchamigos will be played with an RTP of 96.00%. The game has been rated with a medium to high volatility by Play’n Go themselves. The max win potential of Luchamigos is capped at 10,000 times your bet size, which is not that bad. But we’re afraid that that’s all we can give you for now. As soon as we know more, we will update this section.
Luchamigos: Feature Overview
Let’s take a look at what the Lucha game of Play’n Go has in store. Will there be lots of exciting and thrilling features? We’ll find out.
Hot Amigo
The three Luchamigos actually come with names. They are Gran Chico (red), Roco Elastico (green) and Muchos Salvajes (blue). These will actually play an important role, since every single one of them comes with a unique feature. Here’s a list of their respective features:
- Gran Chico – Places a 2×2 Mega Wild on the playing board
- Roco Elastico – Fills his reel with wild symbols
- Muchos Salvajes – Places 4 random wilds on the playing board
But how do you activate their features? That is rather simple. This is where our Amigo Wild comes in play. Whenever an Amigo Wild and a Power Chili scatter are on the playing board at the same time, one of these features is activated at random. Unfortunately we cannot tell you what happens if more than one Power Chili is present, since the game rules do not state anything and we did not manage to get this scenario in testing.
Power Chili Spins
As we mentioned before, landing all 3 Power Chilies in the same spin on reels 1, 3 and 5 will let you enter the Power Chili Spins. You will be granted 7 free spins initially. On the top of the screen you will now see a bar that holds four +2 and 3 flames. Now, with every Amigo you land, you will progress this bar. Additionally, all Amigos will activate their respective feature without the need for any Power Chilies. The +2 symbols will grant you 2 additional free spins, while the flames will give you Hot Spins. During a Hot Spins you are guaranteed to get a win, but you will also trigger on of the 3 Amigo features.
If you manage to get to the end of the bar, you will be granted an Ultimate Hot Spin. This spin is played after you have used every single free spin. The Ultimate Hot Spin is pretty much the same like a regular Hot Spin, since you will be guaranteed a win with an Amigo feature. However, these Amigo features are upgraded in the Ultimate Hot Spin. Here’s what changes:
- Gran Chico – Places a 2×3 Mega Wild on the playing board
- Roco Elastico – Fills his and another reel with wild symbols
- Muchos Salvajes – Places 6 random wilds on the playing board
The feature will end with the Ultimate Hot Spin, if you ran out of free spins before reaching the end of the bar or if the maximum win potential of 10,000 times your bet size has been reached.
Luchamigos: Conclusion
Unfortunately, Luchamigos is a very generic game with not a lot of innovation and thought going into it. Although we must say that the game is very beautifully designed. But at this point, this is something we pretty much expect from Play’n Go. Almost every game of them is a masterpiece design-wise and can most certainly be called art.
But what Play’n Go did not manage to do, is creating a worthwhile game. Luchamigos feels very flat after just a couple of features, because you feel like you have seen it all. That doesn’t mean that it is a bad game though. Luchamigos definitely can have its moments, but it sure feels very hard to ever get something good, despite the fact that it wasn’t even ranked that high in terms of volatility.
In the end, Luchamigos can be a fun game, although the amount of things to look out for is very limited. If you like to play a pretty repetitive game, then this one is for you.
