Slurpy: Slot Overview

Slurpy is an online slot game which is currently in development by swedish game studio ELK Studios. The expected release time is early in September 2024. Slurpy, other than the name might suggests, revolves around different shapes of candy, which will be slurped by various different characters. The game features many complex mechanics and features.

Design and Graphics

The design of Slurpy is very cartoony, with lots of different coloured characters (called Slurpie) that are drawn just like many cartoon characters. On the playing board you will find various coloured and shaped winning symbols, ranging from red octopi to yellow stars and green pyramids.

The background, just like the characters, is also drawn, with kitchen utensils, bottles and other decorations on shelfs.

Gameplay Mechanics

The playing field of Slurpy consists of a 5×5 grid, which can hold up to 25 symbols. The way winnings are formed is very unique. In order to get a win, you must have a winning symbol with the corresponding colour of the character above at the top of the playing field. The symbols then get slurped by the Slurpie and form a win. To help with this there are a lot of different special symbols in play, like different straws that help you form a win, even if the matching symbol is not at the top. Another symbol is the Wild symbol, which links to any symbol it is connected to. The Double symbol will have two different colours and can be slurped by two Slurpies. And lastly, the Bonus and Super Bonus symbols will allow you to enter the Free Spins feature.

A few more special symbols include:

• Coins: Grants its value multiplied with your bet size as win
• Multiplier: Adds the multiplier value to the global multiplier at the top
• Level Up: Expands the grid to a maximum of 7×7
• Extra Slurpie: Adds another Slurpie for more winning chances

Sound and Music

At first, the sound design of Slurpy is really nice, with a mix of modern and 8-bit music, which gives its own very relaxing mood. The symbols falling into the grid also has its charme, as expected from ELK Studios. The only really negative thing here are the slurping sounds. As you might have expected, with a game called Slurpy, it is not recommended to play with sound with you can’t stand the noise of slurping.

Bonus Features

Slurpy will have two Free Drop features, a normal Bonus mode and a Super Bonus mode. The normal Bonus mode is triggered when 3 Bonus symbols have been on the grid in a single spin. This will grant you 5 Free Drops. In the normal Bonus mode, special features are not reset. So for example, if the grid expands to the maximum size of 7×7, it will not be reset inbetween drops. Same goes for additional Slurpies or the global multiplier.

In the Super Bonus mode, everything pretty much stays the same, except that you will start with the maximum grid size and 3 Slurpies from the start.

Betting Options and Payouts

In Slurpy you will have a wide betting range going from €0.20 to €100. Depending on where you play these ranges can vary.

ELK Studios have done it once again and proven that their creativity knows no boundaries. Slurpy is a very fun game with neat mechanics that are very rarely seen, if not even unique. A few negative things stay though, for example that many screens feel “unnatural” and the slurping sounds are something not everyone is comfortable with. Besides that, the game is super fun and definitely a welcome change to the usual online slot games.
