If we tell you, that we have another slot of online software provider NoLimit City to review, you probably already know what we’re cooking with. This time around, they settled for a gangster-themed slot. And this one is no joke, considering you will find guns, knifes, abductions and much more. So don’t turn against your family in NoLimit City’s Whacked!

Playing Board

Whacked! is played on 5 reels with 3 rows. For the win determination, the game will use winning ways. For those of you unfamiliar with this mechanic: with winning ways you will need at least 3 of the same symbol on adjacent reels from left to right. The position of the symbols does not matter. Up to 7,776 winning ways are possible through certain game mechanics. Additionally, Whacked! will use Tumble Wins, which means that symbols, that were part of a winning combination, are destroyed and new ones fall in. Bet sizes range from 0.20€ to 200€ (or equivalent), though this may vary depending on where you play.

Winning Symbols

As usual with NoLimit City, Whacked! features 10 unique winning symbols. These can be divided into 5 lower paying and 5 high-tier symbols. Let’s start right off with the low-tier symbols. Here you will find various tools that gangsters would probably use while doing their dirty deeds. So first we have the rope and the knife, both clocking in at 0.5 times your bet size per full way. Next up are the brass knuckles, which will net you 0.6 times your bet size. Second to last will be the gun, paying you 0.75 times your bet size. And last but not least, probably the deadliest tool, will be the sawed-off shotgun, coming in for 0.9 times your bet size per full way.

Now let’s take a look at the higher paying symbols. These are occupied by various gangster members. As we don’t have a name for them, we will describe them to you, as well as their background colours. First is the black-haired guy with a scarred face on a blue background and the older guy with white hair and a grim face on a red background, both clocking in at 1 time your bet size per full way. The next two are the guy with an Elvis haircut on a white background and the older guy with a little grey hair on a green background, paying you 1.5 times your bet size. And the last symbol will be „the Don“, looking like your typical gangster boss on the orange background. He will pay you 2 times your bet size per full way.

Whacked!: Special Symbols and Stats

Gangsters have all kinds of shady business to deal with. To help them get through with this, they have a few special symbols in their repertoire.

Scatter Symbol

The scatter symbol will be portrayed by a car. With each scatter landed, the trunk of the car will open wider. Landing 3 or more scatter symbols in the same spin will grant you access to the Whacked Spins feature. What exactly this feature does will be covered later on in our Feature Overview section.

xWays symbol

The xWays symbol is an old familiar in many NoLimit City games. This symbol can land on any spin and reel during the base game and the feature game. The symbol is portrayed by a wooden board with the label „xWays“ on it. When it lands, it will expand and reveal 2 or 4 half symbols. „Half“ referring to its size in this case, the payouts will be the same. If a half symbol is part of a winning combination, half a symbol will tumble in as a result. In the feature game, xWays symbols have a different use, which we will cover later on.

Overlay Wild Symbol

The overlay wild symbol will only ever be present during a specific feature in the base game. These symbols will substitute for any winning symbol except scatter symbols. When overlay wilds are part of a winning combination, they will be removed. As they are part of a feature, they cannot appear naturally.

Feature Exclusive Symbols

There are two symbols that are exclusive to the Whacked Spins feature. We will cover these as soon as we cover the feature, as they have no other use outside of it.

Stats

Whacked! will be played on a base RTP of 96.07%. The maximum win achievable in this game is capped at 11,912x, also called Last Man Standing. Your chances of hitting the max win are set to 1 in 900,000 spins on average. Whacked! has received a high volatility rating of 8 out of 10 by NoLimit City themselves. On average you will trigger the free spins feature once every 261 spins. The hit frequency in Whacked! is set to 25.03%, meaning that you will get a win round about every 4th spin.

Now let’s see what Whacked! has in store for players to feel excited and thrilled.

Lock ‘n’ Load

As you may have already noticed, at the bottom of the playing board you will find a revolver drum. With every tumble win, a group of bullets will be loaded into the drum. Once the drum is fully loaded, the Lock ‘n’ Load feature is triggered. What this feature will do, is, that it will shoot all of the bullets at high paying symbols. These symbols will then turn into overlay wild symbols, substituting for any winning symbol. If there are less than 6 high-tier symbols present, the remaining bullets will be safed for later, as the chambers will start to fill again after this feature. The loaded bullets will be unloaded after the spin has finished.

Whacked Spins

Landing 3 or more scatter symbols in the same spin will reward you with the Whacked Spins. In this feature you will be granted 3 respins. Landing more than 3 scatters, as far as we know, does not grant you any benefits. During this feature, the playing board will change a bit. On the bottom of each reel you will now find a value, starting at x1. What you now need to do is collect coins. These coins can appear on any reel. The coins will hold a value that will be multiplied with your base bet. This value can be anything between 1 time and 20 times your bet size. Whenever any symbol lands, your remaining respins will be reset to 3. The coin values will be collected beneath the reel.

This is where we will also get to know the two missing special symbols. One of them is the xRevolver cylinder. When this one lands, it will spin and reveal one of 6 possible options. These options include coins, xWays, xNudge or the Russian Roulette feature.

The xNudge symbol will also be exclusive to the Whacked Spins feature. It is represented by a vulture, ready to feast on the corpses of the gangsters. When the xNudge symbol lands, it will expand, granting a multiplier of x1, x2 or x3, depending on where it lands. For each nudge, the symbol will get a +1 multiplier. This multiplier will then be applied on the value of the reel it has landed on.

As we mentioned earlier, xWays symbols behave a little different in this feature. When an xWays symbol lands, it will always reveal 3 coins, which will then be collected on its respective reel.

At the end of the Whacked Spins, the values of all reels will be added together and be multiplied with your base bet size. The feature will end once you have run out of respins or the max win potential of 11,912x has been reached and you will be crowned the Last Mand Standing.

Russian Roulette

The Russian Roulette feature is a feature within the Whacked Spins. It can only be triggered by the xRevolver symbol. When hitting the chamber with the two golden bullets, you will trigger the Russian Roulette. Your respins will then be reset to 3, but cannot reset again. When the Whacked Spins have ended, instead of adding the values of the reels, the values will be multiplied with each other, allowing for a way higher win on average.

Bonus Buy Feature

Many modern NoLimit City games offer a bonus buy option, so does Whacked! But in contrast to other releases, this game will only give you one single option. For a fee of 88 times your bet size you can directly gain access to the Whacked Spins feature. Buying this feature will come with a slightly higher RTP of 96.15%. As always, keep in mind that Whacked! is a highly volatile slot, which can give you little to no return when buying bonuses.

Whacked!: Conclusion

Whacked! is definitely an interesting slot game, not only because of its theme. It seems like NoLimit City have made it their task to use as many dark themes as they can. Would make sense for their name, if they say „We don’t care, we have no limit, we will use the darkest themes for our games“. Although Whacked! doesn’t get too dark until the Whacked Spins feature, where things go from 0 to 100 very quickly.

One thing we noticed is that the general design of the game resembles a lot of the older releases of NoLimit City. The low-tier symbols don’t look as modern as in their recent releases, but they still have their own charme. Gameplay-wise NoLimit City have proven again that they are still full of ideas. The Lock ‘n’ Load feature adds a spice to the base game, that is unfortunately necessary, becasue the base game does not offer a lot of ways to win big.

But what definitely offers ways to win big is the feature game. Especially when you hit the Russian Roulette feature, you are almost guaranteed to get a big win. But considering this, it will probably be very hard to get it. But with that being said, Whacked! is another wonderful game by NoLimit City that will surely bring lots of fun to lots of people.
