The Knight King: Slot Overview

Let’s play a little guessing game. What are the first two words that come into your mind when you think about the middle ages? If the words were „Knights“ and „Kings“, than you might have the chance to be hired by Pragmatic Play some day. Because in this online slot review we will be talking about Pragmatic Play’s The Knight King.

The Knight King is played on 5 reels with 3 rows and 20 set paylines. The game is rated a 5 out of 5 volatility by Pragmatic Play. Bet sizes range from 0.20€ to 100€ (or equivalent), but can vary depending on where you play.

The Knight King features 9 different winning symbols, with 5 of them on the lower end and 4 on the higher end. The lower symbols are the classic winning symbols from 10 to A. 10’s and J’s clock in at 1-time your bet size for a full line. Next up are the Q’s and K’s for 1.75-times your bet size. And the last lower symbol will of course be the A’s for 2.5-times your bet size.

On the higher end things get more colorful. At first we have the mighty Horse for 3.5-times your bet size. Next up is the Queen for 5-times your bet size. Our second to last symbol is already the Knight King himself for 6-times your bet size. And lastly, the Dragon, clocking in at 7.5-times your bet size for a full line. Now you might think that these payouts don’t look really great, and they had us surprised too. But what if i tell you that the Dragon is not our top symbol?

The Knight King:  Special Symbols and Stats

The Knight King - Basegame

What would be the Knight King without a few companions in shape of Special symbols? The Knight King doesn’t offer too many of them but they definitely don’t lack a specialty.

Let’s begin with the probably most simple one, the Scatter symbol. This symbol is portrayed by a knight with a red and blue background. The Scatter symbol can only land on reel 1, 3 and 5 in the base game and reel 2 and 4 in the Free Spins Feature. To enter this feature you will need to land all 3 Scatters in the same spin.

Our second special symbol is the Wild symbol, indicated by a purple shield with a Knight chess figurine in it, so to speak. The Wild symbol will substitute for all winning symbols except for Scatter symbols. It also has its own payout, paying a whopping 300-times your bet size for a full line of these. Even a 3-of-a-kind pays more than 5 times than a full line of the dragon, making it by far the best symbol.

Alright, we’re done with Special symbols, that means it’s time for stats. The Knight King comes with a base RTP of 96,05%. That’s pretty much the line Pragmatic’s Play has been walking on for their last releases. The max win potential of The Knight King is capped at 5,000-times your bet size, which is usual for Pragmatic Play games. Your chances of hitting one of these however is small. On average you will hit a max win every 11,961,722 spins. Your chances of hitting the Free Spins Feature, which is probably the most exciting part of the game, are once every 217 spins. As always, these are just average numbers and are no guarantee for anything.

The Knight King: Feature Overview

The Knight King Slot - Free Spins

The Knight King does not feature a lot of exciting game mechanics, but the few it has are interesting.

  • Special Money Symbol

The Knight King features a Special Money Symbol. Now you might ask why we didn’t list that in the Special symbols section. Well, the reason for that is simple: The symbol is random. On any spin in the base game you have the chance that one randomly chosen symbol transforms into a Special Money Symbol. This symbol carries a random money value between 0.5-times and 20-times your bet size. Every symbol that you land during this feature is collected and paid out to you. No winning combination or anything required, if it lands, it’s yours.

  • Free Spins Feature

As we already mentioned, landing 3 Scatter symbols in the same spin will let you enter the Free Spins Feature. You will be granted 7 Free Spins. Before the feature starts, a random symbol is chosen and transformed to a Special Money Symbol. This includes Scatter and Wild symbols. Any winning symbol, including Scatter symbols, can have a random value between 1-time and 7-times your bet size. Wild symbols on the other hand have higher values between 11-times and 20-times your bet size. Upon landing your Special Money Symbol, all values on the screen are added together and paid out. Here comes the twist: When landing your Special Money Symbol, its value will increase by a random amount taken from their respective set of possible values.

Quick example here: Let’s say you have A’s as your Special Money Symbol with a 2-times value. Now you land an A in one of your Free Spins. You will be paid its current value, and then its value will increase by an amount between 1-time and 7-times your bet size. This happens everytime you land your Special symbol. And since this is the case, having Wild as your Special symbol will most likely be the most valuable.

Retriggering the Free Spins is possible. Landing 2 Scatter symbols on reel 2 and 4 in the same spin will award you with 4 additional Free Spins. The feature will end once you have no Free Spins left or the max win potential of 5,000-times your bet size has been reached.

  • Bonus Buy Feature

The Knight King also comes with a Bonus Buy Feature. You can pay 80-times your bet size to skip the line and go directly into the Free Spins Feature. Interestingly, with 95.97% the RTP for buying a bonus is slightly lower than the base RTP of 96.05%.

The Knight King: Conclusion

We would love to say that Pragmatic Play have outdone theirselves with The Knight King, but unfortunately they didn’t. Don’t get us wrong, The Knight King is not a bad game or anything, especially not in terms of design. The Knight King features a beautiful ambience with great background music. It really picks up the flair of the medieval theme.

Unfortunately the base game of The Knight King is pretty boring. And Pragmatic Play probably knew that, that’s why the reels spin very fast in this game. We thought we left the turbo button on, but no, it just spins really fast. Which is probably better, because besides the Special Money Symbol feature there’s not really much that can happen in the base game. That’s why the addition of a Bonus Buy Feature is a pretty welcome sight.

The Free Spins Feature however can be pretty exciting, especially if you keep landing your Special symbol. Although it gets a bit unspectacular because all you have to do is landing it. Some might like it that way, some might wish for more thrill.

In the end, The Knight King is a solid game. Not the best but definitely also not the worst. It has its ups and downs but in our view the ups outweigh the downs. This conclused our online slot review about The Knight King. We had lots of fun testing it for you. We hope we could answer all of your questions and left nothing open.
